Summer’s best outfits and the perfect place to wear them. The German model and Instagram superstar takes us back to the Greek island retreat where she fell in love.

According to ancient Greek mythology, it was at Mykonos that the great battle between Zeus and the Titans took place, and where Hercules lured – and later destroyed – the invincible giants from Mount Olympus.

Today there are few traces of any prehistoric acts of heroism on Mykonos. Instead, the sun-drenched resort has an air of more contemporary larger-than-life beings; the small island retreat has been an epicenter of bohemian glamour since the 60s, when icons like Rita Hayworth, Grace Kelly, Marlon Brando and Jackie Kennedy found shelter here.

Although the glamour of golden age Hollywood isn’t intact today, Mykonos continues to be a sanctuary for Hollywood A-listers, athletes and style stars including Naomi Campbell, Olivier Rousteing and several members of the Kardashian/Jenner clan.

German Instagram superstar, Top Model winner, and street style icon Stefanie Giesinger fell in love with (and on, literally) Mykonos last summer. She had only dated her now-boyfriend Marcus Butler (yes, of thatYouTube show) for a short period of time when the pair decided to take off to the oldest country on earth.

“I fell in love on Mykonos. Coming here was our very first vacation together and I’m pretty sure that I actually fell in love with him when we were here,” Stefanie says right after having landed at the island’s small, basically antique airport. “Everything here reminds me of that trip and all the good times we had. This island is amazing.”

“We just laid next to each other talking, watching the stars. It was magical.”

STEFANIE GIESINGER’S FAVORITE MEMORY FROM MYKONOS

These are the first days of summer, and coming to the Greek archipelago is something Stefanie always wants to do to get the best possible start to the fairest season.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT SUMMER?
“Everything! The weather, my tan, that my hair is lighter, I’m wearing less makeup, everyone is in a good mood. Summer is without competition my favorite time of the year.”

WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN YOU COME HERE?
“I go for a run. Jogging in the morning as the sun is going up is the best feeling I know. I can explore the town by myself. To run on sand is such a good workout, you need to put so much more effort into it.”

WHAT KIND OF SWIMWEAR ARE YOU INTO?
“I love tiny bikinis! It’s mostly because I want to avoid tan lines; overall I think bathing suits have a better and more elegant appeal. So for more social beach gatherings, like going to a beach club, I usually opt for a cool bathing suit.”

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR BODY?
“I love my arms. They’re strong! I think strong arms on a woman show how powerful you are.”

WHAT’S YOUR IDEAL WAY TO SPEND A SUMMER NIGHT?
“It would be dancing a bit with my friends, having a barbecue with grilled vegetables and fish, after that just lying down on the ground watching the stars and talking about life. I want my boyfriend and my best friend to be with me. I would love to be at the beach on Mykonos. I love the vibe here, I love the beaches here.”

WHAT WILL YOU WEAR THIS SUMMER?
“Transparent things, denim shorts, loose colorful tops, jeans jackets, lace-up and cut-out details. Open flat shoes and sometimes, in the evenings, a cute heel.”

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY FROM MYKONOS?
“It’s also from the trip I went on with my boyfriend. One of the nights, we took our mattresses out on the balcony and slept under the open sky. We just laid next to each other talking, watching the stars. It was magical.”

POOL OR BEACH?
“I will always choose the beach.”

BACKPACKING OR LUXURY RESORT?
“A comfortable bed is all I need. As long as I can find that I’m fine with either.”

STEFANIE’S MYKONOS

HOW TO GET HERE
From May to September you can fly directly to Mykonos from most European capitals, and if you have a stopover in Athens the connecting flight to Mykonos only takes between 15 and 25 minutes. Another perhaps even better option is to hop on a two-hour ferry from Athens. Ship ahoy!

WHAT TO PACK
I never go anywhere without my gym gear. Aside from that, all I need is sunscreen, a bunch of sunglasses, a bikini and a pair of noise-canceling headphones. If I could only pack one thing, it would be a bikini. It’s really the only thing I need. Because when I’m on vacation, I’m on the beach all day, every day.

WHERE TO BEACH
I love Agios Sostis. It’s quiet, secluded and feels like a secret cove that only locals and regulars know of – far away from the popular beach clubs on the other side of Chora [the main town on the island].

WHERE TO EAT
When I’m in Greece I want to eat Greek food. I love souvlaki, gyros, feta cheese and all the fresh fruits and vegetables you can buy. There’s a tiny market in the harbor every morning. I love to go there to buy fresh fruit and eat it as a post-breakfast snack.

WHERE TO DANCE
I hate to admit this, but I’m really not a party person. I know that Mykonos has a wild side, but I come here to enjoy the silence.

HOW TO PONDER ABOUT LIFE
Go running! I jog from the town to the water and wherever I end up. It helps me clear my mind, think things through, and make decisions.
