PRINTED BLOUSE  / WHITE DENIM SHORTS / STRIPE SOLUDOS / HAT / BACKPACK

There are so many reasons I love where I live. Growing up on this island was special. It’s no wonder people flock here from all over the world, to experience this magical place I get to call home. And every year, as summer starts to arrive, after a long hard winter, I’m reminded why I feel so lucky to be here. There is something about the ocean that makes me feel alive, a connection that runs deep, I know I’m not the only one that has that feeling. The saltiness in the air, that first swim of the season, the sensation of floating there, weightless, nothing else matters. Anytime I’m overwhelmed or stressed, I immediately go to the ocean, whether it’s the beach, the cliff walk, Fort Adams, the harbor, it doesn’t matter how bad I’m feeling or what the weather is like, I know I can find a sense of calm and peace.

The theme of today, World Ocean’s Day, is Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet and the goal is to take action to prevent plastic pollution in our ocean. We can all take steps to help keep our oceans healthy and prevent plastic pollution. The ocean connects us, it feeds us, and it is one of our most precious resources. It’s all of our responsibility to keep it healthy and clean. Learn more about what you can do to protect our oceans and keep them free from plastic pollution here.

Inspired by effortless French girl style, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite things for summer that checks out at $100 or less. The summer is a time to get outside and let your natural beauty shine through, so I love simple staples that are versatile and easy to wear. Enjoy!

Rachel Zoe Sandal $129.00

Rachel Zoe is one of my all time favorite shoe brands. They make sustainable, fair trade shoes without the markup from middlemen. They are amazing quality and will last you many seasons to come. These Tash Thong Sandal are a favorite for summer– easy to dress up or down depending on the occasion.

Circular Basket $32

I’m obsessed with the basket trend this summer, and this one is perfect for the beach or farmers market. The long straps make it easy to carry and it would look chic with a sundress and strappy sandals or with cutoffs and a tee.

Denim Skirt $78

I love the way denim skirts have come back in style– and no it’s not your unflattering cutoff mini from middle school. A-line options with buttons or zippers down the front are a chic alternative to shorts this summer. I love this one from Madewell with pockets for extra detailing.

Pai Rosehip Oil $40

Serums are a great alternative to lotions as they are more concentrated and deliver greater nourishment and hydration. They tend to be pricey but this amazing Rosehip Oil from Pai checks out at only $40 and is completely safe and non-toxic too! It’s great for the summer since it reduces the effects of UV damage and evens the skin tone… Use it on it’s own or mix it with your daily moisturizer.

White Crop $18

During the summer, a white crop tee is a must. They look great with everything – high waisted skirt, maxi skirt, over a bathing suit… the list goes on. Nordstrom has some cute ones that are under $40, I love this one and this one.

Espadrilles $50

For effortless French girl style, espadrilles top the charts for chic summer shoes. I love the affordable selection that Soludos has– this striped pair is comfortable and versatile to go with many outfits and occasions.

Polaroid Sunnies $65

Who knew Polaroid made sunglasses? I love this affordable pair and they even have 100% UV protection and polarized lenses. Plus, they are stainless steel so you don’t have to worry about them snapping if you tend to drop your glasses, like me.

Bikini Top $100

It’s so hard to find affordable bathing suits that are cute and flattering, so I like to splurge a little on a top that can go with multiple bottoms that I already own. This millennial pink one from Vix checks in right at the top of our budget at $100 and would look great paired with black or white bottoms.
